This film explores the relationship between gardens and memorials as spaces of collective grief, memory, and healing in response to ICE presence. Beginning in a child’s backyard vegetable garden and concluding in the symbolic garden of a memorial site, the film bridges these spaces as sites of reckoning and resistance. Told through the lens of a child experiencing the looming threat of ICE in her neighborhood, this film also expresses the wider sensory and emotional impact on children living through occupation. This film was animated using mixed-media yarn, fabric, weavings, handmade paper, and watercolor paints. A Garden Grows Here was created for the PF Studios Exhibition Within Reach at PLOT Gallery, an exhibtion exploring art making, visioning, and collecive action.
